2450-075, Nazaré, Leiria, Portugal
Looking down to the sea with her hands on her waist, the almost 6 metres high corten steel statue of the Nazarena seems to be waiting for the return of her beloved ones. Dressed to the nines, with her seven petticoats, embroidered apron, queenly earrings and hat with tassel, designed by the Alcobaca artist Bugalho Ferros, it is a tribute to the hardworking women of Nazaré, to their natural elegance and courage.
Inaugurated on 8 September 2023, the day of the Municipality and of Our Lady of Nazaré, and located at the Matadouro roundabout, the statue of the Nazarena, besides paying tribute to the women of Nazaré, also publicises the twinning arrangements between Nazaré and various towns in Europe and beyond.
