Av. da Republica 2450-159 Nazaré
It is a small rectangular temple with a large and single space, and dedicated to the cult of Our Lady of the Desperate.
It was built in 1760 at the request of the Cistercians monks of Alcobaça, in order to receive in here the tithe of the captured fish, given the refusal of the fishermen in paying their taxes in Pederneira.
It used to have an opening in the door that communicated with the money-box of the Saint, which was nailed to the door, and where the devotees would cast their alms.
The façade is lined with blue and white pattern tiles, with a pointed arch portal surmounted by an eye-window. The building is finished by a graceful bell tower. The interior is lined with a blue, yellow and white flower pattern tile ashlar. The sidewalls of the high altar have two figurative panels, representing, on the Epistle Side “the Stigmatization of St. Francis” and, on the Gospel side, “St. Anthony and Child Jesus”. The high altar has pseudo-twisted columns with cubic capitals and, at the centre, the statue of the Saint. The lighting in the interior is given by an eye-window in the frontispiece and 3 large windows. The tiles in the altar are from the 18th century and the ones of the nave are from the 19th or even from the 20th century.
