Located to the north of Valado dos Frades, in the National Woods, the Lagoon of Valado or Saloio forms on its own a fresh water resource of great ecological and landscape value.
Being a refuge for birds, reptiles and amphibians, it is not a safe place for the practice of aquatic activities, rather an area of excellence for land activities, like walking.
In the avifauna it is possible to observe several species in this place, such as the Great Tit (Parus major), the European Cocktail (Serinus serinus), the Greenfinch (Chloris chloris) and the Great Tit (Aegithalos caudatus). As far as fauna is concerned, Carps (Cyprinus carpio) (exotic species), several species of amphibians, namely the Common Toad (Bufo bufo) and the Iberian Frog (Rana ibérica), can be observed.
In terms of flora, there are two predominant species: Maritime Pine (Pinus pinaster) and Scirpoides holoschoenus, present along the entire edge of the lake, and it is also possible to observe Stauracanthus genistoides, Caniço (Phragmites australis) and Australia (Acacia melanoxylon) which is an exotic plant.
