Rua Brito Alão
Situated near the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Nazaré, it is an Italian type romantic theatre dating from the early 20th century.
The designer was the architect Ernesto Korrodi in 1908. Korrodi wished to adopt to this theatre a stage and audience system similar to the La Scala in Milan.
The advantages of the plan in the shape of a horseshoe were huge in terms of sound: the sound diffuses clearly, flooding the room.
Frederico Ayres, from Lisbon, was hired for the execution and painting of the sceneries and he was also responsible for the theatre frescoes, as well as for the paintings of the curtain scene that still exists.
On February 5th, 1926, Chaby Pinheiro and his Company, invited by the House of Nazaré, inaugurated the stage. For having premiered the theatre of the House of Nazaré, it is named after the famous actor, a name that persists to this day.
The Theatre Chaby Pinheiro has played a crucial role in the development of amateur theatre in Nazaré throughout its existence. Many of the plays represented by the Amateur Theatre Group of Nazaré, in the forties, were staged and represented in this valuable space.
